[Nettime-bold] RE: RHIZOME_RAW: History Lesson (Part 1) |
From: Curt Cloninger curt@lab404.com >I'm not holding prix ars electronica up as the be all end all of what's hip and what's not, but I am amused at how the net.art subculture so whines about being left out of it.< Thanks for your excellent post. What is astounding to me is that for my 30 years working as a "fine" artist, I have only exhibited in two museums and a handful of galleries. Why, no one was interested in my ideas. UNTIL -- This past year I finally received International recognition. I have been featured in dozens of magazines and newspapers (Sweden, Canada, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Austria, US, etc.) and TV documentaries. I even had a filmmaker at UCLA make a documentary on my life. I have been invited to many art, science and technology conferences to give presentations on my work and ideas. WHY? Because of net.art. Net.art has given me a venue to produce ideas that no gallery or museum is ready for or even cares about. I'm very thankful for the Internet and having left the canvas and paint brushes behind to allow my conceptions to take digital form.
