Re: <nettime> BBC promotes the Bush Plan to Privatize Social |
Re the BBC take on pensions reform The irony of this, is that the Conservative governments of Thatcher and Major made privatization of social security (pensions) a primary policy goal. The policy was initially extended by the proto-Conservative government of Tony Blair, until the financial disaster became too large to ignore. Now, Blair is faced with the difficult task of figuring out how to turn back the clock on this ridiculous policy, while also facing an increasing number of broke, elderly retiring boomers who thought they could retire with some small amount of security, and are now applying for jobs at Sainsburys. Ronda, the BBC story was about internal British politics, not US politics.
